Giveaway: HP Photosmart Premium with TouchSmart Web

I’m a Blackberry girl, but I will admit to some serious app-envy when the IPhones came out.  I would sit around with my friends who owned IPhones watching them plick around from app to app, shaking this and scrolling that.  Jealousy is an ugly thing.

But that was really it.  I didn’t want it because it was a better phone or because it provided better service…I craved apps. Organization apps, game apps, chat apps, productivity apps.  I wanted them.

You want to find thousands of ways to waste your money?  There’s apps for that.

Beyond the games and Twitter apps, there’s a functionality to having these apps at hand that make doing without seem archaic.  My kids are growing up with information at their fingertips, with a grasp of technology that is almost Jetson-like compared to my childhood.

Apps make the world just a little bit more fun, a little bit easier.

HP decided that if you wanted a printer that was easier and more functional as a stand-alone piece of equipment, they would make apps for THAT.

I already have an awesome HP printer….it’s an All-In-One and totally wireless but it still requires me to sit at the computer and send the printer what I need it to print.

But I got a chance to play with the HP Photosmart Premium with TouchSmart Web while I was at BlogHer and all my threats to steal if off the table were laughed away.  I may have even licked it a time or two.

HP gave me all these specs I could share and things I could tell you, but I really have to explain it in my own way:

If a printer and an IPhone had a baby? THIS would be the resulting bundle of joy.  A kickass, multi-functional and app-happy baby. I love babies.

hpfunctionWhich is really nice.  I mean, that thing is slick!

But, what makes this machine stand head and shoulders above the rest? Is THIS:

hpappsUsing my giddy little fingers in Chicago I was able to scroll through the apps and print off Google Maps, Fandango movie tickets, photos that had been uploaded to Snapfish and HP Creative Studios, coupons from Coupons.com, watch movie trailers and print coloring pages from DreamWorks (do you SEE why I tried to steal this sucker?).

From this one little screen you can download apps from the HP Apps Suite to your little heart’s content, but you can also edit your photos on the spot.  You can print directly from your IPhone or PSP (that we don’t have yet but might have to buy just to be sure you really can).

Now, I didn’t even GET one of these beauties as my very own to love and keep. *sigh* BUT!!  I get to give one away to a lucky reader.

No.

FOR REAL.

It’s not even available for sale yet and you’re going to get to win one.

I know. SHUT UP.

So, on with the giving.

How to win:

•    Please leave a comment below…HP wants to know what apps you would use with a printer like this…If you were creating an app, what would you make? If you leave an APP suggestion, it will get you TWO entries (for example, I don’t get the Sunday paper, but I’d love to be able to have the sales inserts….they could have those for download and printing JUST the ones I would use. SCORE!)

•    Additional entry for Tweeting this contest and leaving the link in a comment – Use @AnissaMayhew in the tweet please!

•    You may receive an additional entry by blogging about this contest and leaving a link in the comments

Today, I went to the beach with my kids. I found a sea shell and gave it to my 4 year old daughter and said “You can hear the ocean if you put this to your ear.” She placed the shell to her ear and screamed. There was a hermit crab inside and it pinched her ear. She never wants to go back! This would be great for printing off my weekly menus (to post on the fridge) & grocery lists (to take with me shopping). Thanks for the chance to win this fabulous HP printer!

I would really love an app that could be linked to my twitter account that could print all my tweets with a specific hash tag. I like to use Twitter as a baby book (IT IS ALWAYS THERE, and I am lazy, ha.) and that would make it possible to easily pull out all the #milestone tweets for transfer to … an actual baby book.

Seriously? I don't even HAVE a printer. I have to copy things off the net WITH MY FINGERS and a PEN. (or crayon, whatever is handy) – I do have an iPhone, so this rocks my socks.
If I was an App designer, I would like to be able to print coupons from onlines sites as well as the Sunday paper. IS there already an App for that? How about an App that takes my blog recipes and makes them printable without the fuss?

  10. Maggie Smith September 8, 2009 at 4:09 PM #

I would make an app that would allow me to access my work schedule on my iPhone and print it at home! That would be cool!

  11. robin September 8, 2009 at 3:18 PM #

    I've always owned a HP printer and nothing will change. No doubt this is A W E S O M E!

  12. Pat Treib September 8, 2009 at 2:10 PM #

Oh!!!… My goodness, I want this to *organize* my designs (sewing, quilting)!!! SO many ways to organize and keep track of my designs, patterns, (and even my "stash" of materials, fabrics, colors and idea sketches!!)
I would love to be able to select the design I want to use, play with the colors, tweek the layout, save the changes, and then print out the pattern!! Archiving past work, and creating a portfolio of relevant designs would be a snap!!
    Oh, my!!!!
    Blessings!!!

  17. Denise September 3, 2009 at 9:06 PM #

I'd like an app to assemble a grocery list from a recipe (sorting by department ideally). I'd also like an app to pull together library call numbers and put together a nice in-order list to go search the shelves.

  18. jennyonthespot September 3, 2009 at 2:39 PM #

    Dude. Shizzle. So shizzle.

I'd print pics from flickr I bling-out on picnik. It's true. And google maps. Print, print, print!

Are your serious – can print from my iPhone???? Who needs oxygen when there's this?

  19. Amy September 3, 2009 at 2:14 PM #

How about an app that prints coloring pages for the kids? That would save me about a squjillion dollars in coloring books.

Another idea – an app to find and print coupons!!

Sorry if these are duplicates, I've not read all 100+ comments.

  22. Jeanette September 2, 2009 at 6:12 PM #

That is the most awesome printer I have seen. I would have to get a newer and better camera to do it justice. Printing photos of the grandkids would be a breeze.

  23. Rhonda Phillips September 2, 2009 at 4:33 PM #

  25. jean September 2, 2009 at 11:59 AM #

I would love to be able to print directly from my phone, as well as the google app.

  26. ursula September 1, 2009 at 12:55 PM #

Oh, the Snapfish app! I remember the days "pre-printer" when I would have to head to Target to make copies of pics!!! Oh, the days!

  27. b_s_lynn August 31, 2009 at 3:07 PM #

A mini Open Office app would be great I could then print any number of doc.s I already have. Especially those annoying calculate spreadsheets that I always seem to need to print again and again. Sun would do a great thing making a compatible format.

  28. MommyGeek August 28, 2009 at 6:36 PM #

Oooh, sexy! I think I'd like an App that would let me print photos from my Flickr stream. Or maybe one that let me purchase and print stock photos!

  29. Janna August 27, 2009 at 10:50 PM #

I CAN PRINT FROM MY IPOD TOUCH?!?!?!?!? Now I wan this thing so darn bad I may have to actually pay for one! (oooo, Christmas, maybe? hello, in-laws?)

I have so many apps on my Touch – printing from any of them would make my head explode! I can't even think of a new app – just the idea of this printer is fabulous! *sigh*

  30. expateek August 27, 2009 at 9:25 PM #

Howzabout an app that prints boarding passes and Expedia travel itineraries? That would be awesome. It's always the last thing you're mucking about with as you run out the door!

  31. rachel August 26, 2009 at 10:17 PM #

how cool. I would love an allrecipies app so i could get a paper copy all saucy and not my laptop.

  32. Amber August 26, 2009 at 9:33 PM #

That is the prettiest printer I've ever seen. I love my HP all-in-one, but it's old and there are so many things that this new one can do that mine can't. I would want an app that would allow me to print the recipes I want from recipes.com…without first having to go to my computer to find them. And it's wireless?!?! Holy artichokes I would love to have that baby!

  33. tena August 26, 2009 at 9:21 PM #

I'm speechlessly in love with this printer! It's amazing and I need it- need so bad- you don't even know. It's a little over my head, but I would really try my hardest to understand the whole "app" thing! I would use coupons, recipes, and maps! I would like a budgeting app (because I would like to pretend that I stay on budget) and a scheduling agenda to coordinate all my kid's whereabouts- I'm getting giddy thinking about it!

  34. Kara August 26, 2009 at 8:33 PM #

You could have a ticketmaster app.

You could also put together a craigslist app. That way when you are house hunting or apartment shopping you can just grab the data you need

It sounds like a great printer. Mine works on perforated paper, just kidding, it's not that bad. Great giveaway

Ohhh, I love this printer! We always gravitate toward HP printers. I'd love to be able to print maps so easily!

  37. Tiffany August 26, 2009 at 6:51 PM #

I'd love an app that would print recipes from food blogs, without the pictures. I hate wasting all that ink when all I really need is the text.

  38. Mel August 26, 2009 at 6:23 PM #

    I twittered it too! @mela0521

  39. Mel August 26, 2009 at 6:21 PM #

An app that would let me print multiple photos on a single page would be great.

  40. Maria August 26, 2009 at 6:11 PM #

I would love an APP to help me print allergen information when I'm heading to restaurants or shopping. My son has a life-threatening peanut allergy and it would be helpful to be able to print a quick alert card OR easily look up whether or not major brands contain peanuts or were processed in a facility with peanuts.

I want this – an app idea would be an auto-flickr printer. Where you tag a photo with print and it would print it. or even better hook it up with http://www.eye.fi and then have the ones marked with print – well… print.

You have the coolest stories where you tell people off and sexy giveaways ;-)

  43. Leighann August 26, 2009 at 6:04 PM #

Ha! Miss Grace, I didn't want to be the first, so I'm glad you were instead of me.

I totally want this printer. Printing straight from my iPhone would be awesome. Not to mention printing from my laptop across the house (I love all things wireless!).

I would love to get my fingers on that touch screen.
