Today I laid on the floor. On purpose. With a goal.
One of my biggest fears is falling.
From beds. Chairs. Tranfers.
That old joke is true. It’s not the fall, it’s the landing.
So today at physical therapy I told them to teach me how to get up.
Not that I fall a lot.
But, feeling helpless sucks.
I had to wrangle my body parts. I forced things that didn’t want to be forced. I was in positions that were humiliating and embarrassing.
I got off the floor.
Sweating and breathing hard, I sat too tired to celebrate what was the victory.
And it was.
I got off the floor.
That may not sound like much.
But I dare you to try with one arm and one leg tied behind your back.
Then tell me about victories.

Just hard to write long rambly comments with one hand and a baby in the other (Not sure what will come first: mastery of one handed typing OR the baby being independent and not wanting to cuddle 24/7. Or rather..me not wanting to cuddle HIM 24/7.

I know how hard you are working. I couldn’t do it. Also I refuse to tie one leg behind my back, last time I did that I got pregnant.
YOU are doing AWESOME!! My ex (ex because he went to drugs) was a paraplegic, & before we ever left rehab he had to show that he could get himself up from the floor, just in case I wasn’t around. I saw his struggle…I tried everything he did beside him to have “some kind” of an idea. OMG with the tough…and I wasn’t him. Or you.
YOU.RAWK. Such an inspiration. Keep the fight, and know that you have people behind you fighting for you every step of the way!

I’ve been a paraplegic for almost 11 years. I still can’t get off the floor unless my life depends on it. And then it’s still questionable.
