About Anissa
Erma Bombeck said something that pretty much defines my approach to life.... "When I stand before God at the end of my life, I would hope that I would not have a single bit of talent left, and I could say, "I used everything you gave me." If you switch the word TALENT for LOVE or LAUGHTER or HAPPINESS....it still stands.

I’m happy for you about the flush, but also noticed how well you are speaking since your first vlog. You’re gonna make this happen!
Yay for flushing! And you know what? You are totally sounding clearer and talking faster too. Happy dance!

Congratulations on flushing the toilet!! It’s the little things in life that bring us the greatest rewards! You have come so far with every little progress together! Truly amazing! xo
P.S I live in Florida! You definitely should pay us a visit!
Wow!!! I remember the days of sharing that my kid pooped on the toilet. I remember jumping up and down with excitement. I remember getting “the look”. I am jumping up and down for you! Now I am getting “the look”….I am at work… better go find something to do…
CONGRATS on the accomplishment!
Dude! You flushed! Yay!!!!!
I’m so happy you are sharing the milestones, so we can celebrate with you. *hugs*
Well, count me as another confused with the camera angle, but who cares? You “flushed” with your elbow and you haven’t done that since November! Incredible news! I wish you could see me jumping up and down from 3000 miles away.
You are making HUGE progress, Anissa, and I’m rooting for you every step of the way. Your journey from the effects of the strokes is arduous and takes unbelievable perseverance. But you are handling it with
grace and grit. Now go get tomorrow! You teach us lessons about life that you may not even realize. I think I need to rename you “Yoda”…
I still flush the toilet with my left hand – you’re doing GREAT! (I was very excited the day I was first able to pull up my pants … as awkward as it was!) It’s the little victories that keep us going. Yay YOU!!! : )

I will think of you — and celebrate — every time I flush the toilet.
I think it is great news
I think that who ever (whom ever? whatever) rains on your toilet flushing parade deserves a swirly. I’ll hold’em and you flush.

don’t let anyone bust your bubble on this one, flushing IS a big deal!

Dude, to quote someone upthread, flushing is a big freaking deal! Something I’ve noticed recently and it’s very apparent, especially in this vlog, is how much control you’re getting back in your face. I am so stoked by your progress that I can barely contain myself. Keep on trucking, sister!
So, I recovered from Transverse Myelitis for a about three months at home. During this time, I think I wore sweat pants or elastic band shorts all the time.
I went back to work, wearing jeans or something like that, and used the bathroom about like I always did. With one major exception.
You can pull sweat pants half way up while sitting down, and they stay where you put them. Jeans, not so much. So, that first day, I pull my pants up like normal, get up, and damn it, pants around the ankles. So, I made a few more tries, but I carry a lot of crap in my pants pockets (I’m a guy in case you didn’t notice on the sig), so my pants are pretty heavy.
So, I had little choice but to rise, balance and fish my pants up. Very cool! Falling in a public toilet and probably getting stuck would have really sucked.
So, yep, it’s the little things, like flushing a toilet, you will never forget.
By the way, the pants episode was in Jan 2o02, and I remember it like it was yesterday.

You are awesome. And hilarious. And amazing.
Then why is our camera perspective so confusing????????? Aren’t we seeing you as if we were sitting face to face with you. I can’t figure it out. So looking at you, our left hand would be on the same side as your right hand. HELP!!! I will be up all night trying to figure this out!!!
Agreed. I’m so confused, too…
I’m having the same confusion. There must be an explanation on the Internet somewhere about the mirror effect of video that switches the left and right view on the screen. I’ll have to find time to look it up.
Flushing the toilet is a big freaking deal. Wooohoooooooo!
