there were strippers in my bathroom…

A co-worker of Pete’s is with his wife as she recovers from two aneurysms.   S is in the life-or-death stages of just fighting to stay alive.  This woman has already beat incredible odds to be here today.

I’m proof that as hard as the doctors try, they can be proven very wrong.

I’m hoping that S continues to prove them wrong.

Three years ago my mother had a catastrophic stroke. It took out her left lobe. Her physical therapist told me she would never walk again. Oh she’s walking and here is the latest report from the neurologist:

“Just a brief report on our visit to the Neurologist today. Dr. L (the Russian who loves Chekhov) was just blown away by your mother’s progress. He used the phrase “miracle” a couple of times. She now has feeling in her right hand, which she didn’t have the last time we were there. She has feeling in her face. She is much stronger in right arm and hand. He had her read the cover of some book with multisyllablic words and it was obvious to both of us that she was reading the words, although she did have trouble saying “examination.” He recognized that her speech has improved greatly, even though it is very difficult for her to say some of the words she obviously knows. And he does not believe that she has plateaued.”

And he doesn’t believe she’s plateaued. If S can survive and if she does the work, she will be yet another example of the potential of the human brain, the human will, and perhaps some intervention from God. Three years ago as I struggled with the tragedy of my mother’s life being turned inside out I found Anissa. And I’ve watched as the two toughest women I know have fought to regain their lives. S will too.

You may have proven the Doctors wrong, but I think you are living proof that extraordinary people can do extraordinary things.

I hope Pete’s co-worker’s wife is as extraordinary as you are.

Just when I think you can’t possibly get any more profound, Anissa, you prove me wrong with just one sentence! I’ll admit

I have a pet peeve. It’s that doctors sometimes decide what someone’s future is going to be. (i.e.”They’ll never walk again.” “They’ll only live a couple more days.) Last time I looked, none of them had crystal balls. You are a shining example that doctors should never be the ones to impede the human spirit.

Now go get tomorrow (like you always do) Anissa. I have faith that YOU will continue to prove the doctors wrong…
