my #NonCon story, part 1

I sat at the back of an empty room and looked around at the walls, the tables, the chairs and quiet expectation that waited.

Months of emails had been written. Hangouts had been hung. Calls had been made.

Planning, coordinating, organizing, culminating.

The emptiness waited.

My stomach burned with the worry.

Then a few friendly faces appeared. It was as if a switch flipped and there was a spotlight on my perfect dream moment.

If it had been no more than me and those few other friends it really would have been ok.

Maybe not ok for the hotel that was expecting more people.

Maybe not ok for the sponsors who were expecting more people.

Maybe not for the tables and chairs that waited to be filled.

BUT FOR ME, with each face that entered and smiled in greeting, hand reached out to be grasped, arms spread in a wide hug, I got to see my perfect dream moment again and again.

to be cont……..

This was only my second conference – after the cast of thousands at BlogHer – and it was amazing. The first night, I called my husband and said “I’ve found my people!” It was one big welcoming lunch table in the cafeteria of life. Thank you, Anissa.
