Back when Peyton was in treatment I was still fumbling around this blog-o-sphere. A place where I would constantly find myself drawn in was the 5 Minutes For Mom sister sites. At the time, it was 5 Minutes For Special Needs where I found my emotional wounds soothed and could reach out to find likeminded moms in need of someone to just LISTEN and UNDERSTAND.
Being the kind of person I was it didn’t take me long to reach out to Janice and Susan to ask if I could write for them. I mean, the worst they could say was no, right? Where I would curl up in a humiliation ball and hoped a shame spiral swept me away.
It was with the amazing warmth of these two ladies I was able to find that there were so many moms in the background of the 5 Minuted family. Those that emailed instead of commented, those that reached out in private to share their very hard version of what we were all going through.
I quit writing for the site when Peyton was out of treatment and I stopped writing about her so much. It didn’t feel right to write to write about my child that would find an end to treatment when so many faced a lifetime of struggles just starting.
So, I stepped down.
Then I had my stokes.
When I went to my first conference in NYC I was so glad to see Janice and Susan there. My very first post-strokes interview was with the two of them.
The last few years have been spent circling around each other at different conferences. My joy to see them grows and grows. These ladies may have started off as mentors but quickly became friends.
It’s with pride that I’m able to use this space to announce this year’s ULTIMATE BLOG PARTY.
The Ultimate Blog Party is just that — the ultimate place to party and meet new friends, (but no babysitters, airplanes, or tickets necessary.)
It is super easy to participate — all you do is write a party post on your site, sharing a bit of what you and your site are all about. Then you hop off to the main party post at 5 Minutes for Mom and add the URL of that party post to the applicable linky list so others can find you and “meet” you and your blog. (There are also linky lists for your Twitter and Pinterest accounts.)
After you have posted and linked up, start partying! Blog hop your way through the linky lists, leaving comments and making friends as you go. There are also live events again this year — a Twitter party Monday, April 8 at 9pm Eastern and a Google+ Hangout Tuesday, April 9 at 9pm Eastern. We will be talking blogging tips and tricks, answering bloggers’ questions, and giving out prizes.
