I remember the first day of Nathaniel’s first year of school.
It took ten minutes for me to stop bawling after he took off without a backward glance.
This first school day I send off three kids to three different schools. A sophomore, seventh grader and fourth grader. Hearts full of varied purpose, a year of unknown determination.
I’m a mother that aches for the things I can’t offer my kids. I wallow in the joys they bring me. We share a laughter I hope they’ll carry far in their memory.
I send them off to learn each day so they can come home and teach me the lessons that aren’t found in books.
