Anissa’s Story

Anissa Mayhew is the wheelchair-sporting mother of three. In 2009, after two and a half years of maintaining Hope4Peyton.org, she retired her daughter’s successful childhood cancer recovery site. Anissa started #FreeAnissa with no real purpose but writing.

After surviving two strokes that left her handicapped in late 2009, Anissa has found a new reason to tell stories. With a strong sense of humor and a drive to recover, Anissa has accomplished more than the doctors said she would.

What Others Are Saying About Anissa

Cecily Kellogg, Editor & Content Creator, Aiming Low, LLC:

“Working for Anissa has been a writer and editor’s dream. Her high standards push me to be the best I can be, and her unerring eye for attracting talent gives me the opportunity to work with some of the best writers in the world. Her skill at managing and promoting Aiming Low ensures excellent opportunities for everyone involved. I can’t recommend her enough.”

Maggie Ginsberg-Schutz, Founder and moderator, Violence UnSilenced:

“Anissa’s deft use of language and willingness to share her personal struggles makes her a cog in many online communities, and I have long respected her work ethic and heart. But when she rebuilt her life from the ground up (literally), she became nothing less than a superhero to me. I have unwavering faith in Anissa’s marketable skills, of which there are too many to name.”

Elan Morgan, Writer, Aiming Low

Anissa does an excellent job of managing the fine balance of being a writer, founder and lead editor who must work to corral a number of other creatives. She is at once personable and fun while keeping a sharp eye on her goals not only for the website itself but for her writers, sponsors, and broad readership. If I wasn’t already working for her, I’d work for her again. Viva Anissa!
